How long have you been freelancing?
About a year now.
What do you do? Share your work history and skills.
I’m a strategic marketing consultant. I’ve spent years working at agencies, and my background includes everything from being a non-profit grant writer to revenue operations.
What is your “exit” story? Why did you decide to freelance?
I wanted to reconnect with what was important. Freelancing provided the opportunity to see that my work really makes an impact.
Share how freelancing has been great and/or how it has been hard. (positives vs. pain points)
Freelancing has been great! I have a lot more flexibility and control over my day to day, so I was able to find a work-life balance that actually works for me. I do have to remember that I need to be my own marketing and sales team though, and Uncompany has been awesome with supporting that side of things.
What are some things you wish you would have known when you started out?
A step-by-step guide for starting a business would’ve been nice.
What is some advice you would share with soon-to-be or wish-to-be freelancers?
You can do it! Believe in yourself. If it doesn’t quite work out the way you planned, try it a little differently next time.
What is some advice you would share with clients on how to best work with freelancers?
Formalize your preferred communication channels and try to be clear about your expectations.
